Nikon last night announced it’s long awaited new Pro Flagship DSLR – the Nikon D4, a 16.2 MP FX DSLR. For full details, see Nikon Rumors Post on the announcement along with the announcement of a 85mm f1.8 lens and the new W-5 wireless transmitter.
*Also, please see Joe McNally’s Post on shooting with the D4. Joe gives his approval, so it has to be a great camera.
This was long coming as well as the still waiting for announcement of the D700 successor, the D800.
With Canon’s earlier announcement of the Canon 1DX the competition is again heating up between the two top DSLR manufacturers. Though with Nikon’s camera coming in slightly cheaper than the 1DX ($6000 vs. $6800) you wonder if Canon will lower it’s price to keep with the market. Both cameras have amazing stats and will probably wow everyone.
Will I be running out to get the D4, no, I am plenty satisfied with my D700 and as of now could not ask more from a camera. But who doesn’t love to look at new ‘toys’.
Also from Nikon is the new 85mm f1.8 lens, which is a great alternative for people who do not want to shell out a small fortune for the 85mm f1.4. You loose a couple stops of light but a great value for a very useful focal length!
Okay, you can search the web and read all the buzz on these new pieces of equipment!
This was a handheld HDR Panorama taken with the D7000 from Olive Park. It was a beautiful sunset and the yellows from behind the building really drew my eye to this. One of my favorite spots in the city!
